BOCKEN BO
In the old days, a goat made of wood or straw was hidden at a neighbor’s house. It was then up to the one who had been given a goat to return it without being detected. The goat could then be shuffled back and forth throughout the Christmas celebrations. The story does not reveal what happened if someone was caught returning the goat…
TUPPEN TURE
The rooster, a symbol connected to Easter appears already in the gospel according to Matthew, where the rooster crows the morning after the apostle Peter three times has denied knowledge of Christ. This happened on the night between Monday – Thursday and Good Friday. After this event the rooster is seen as a symbol of vigilance, the death and resurrection of Jesus and the victory of light over darkness.
ÄLGEN ÄRLING
The moose has become a powerful symbol for Sweden and makes you think of tranquil nature and unspoilt wilderness. Swedish moose hunting is an old tradition taking place every autumn. The moose stock must not not grow too large as it could then cause accidents with vehicles and bring damage to the forests and fields.
GÅSEN AKKA
According to swedish tradition the story tells us that saint Martin of Tours was hiding amongst the geese to avoid getting selected for bishop. However the cackling of the geese revealed Mårten and as punishment they were slaughtered and then eaten. Nowadays a great goose feast is held in his honour on the 10th of November. The name Akka has been taken from the Nobel laureate Selma Lagerlöfs story Nils Holgersson’s wonderful journey thru Sweden. In the story, Akka is the lead goose; strong, fair and a true role model – just like Selma herself.

MUTOMO
For each Tuppen Ture that is sold, Svensk Tradition donates a living hen to families in the village Mutomo in Kenya, Africa. Ocassionally a famous swedish artist decorates and signs a rooster Tuppen Ture. It is sold through bidding and all the money is then converted into living hens for the Mutomo project.
